This listing is for my original mixed media piece "Evolution." The size is 11"x14" on a 5/8" deep stretched canvas, although the raised texture protrudes from the canvas making the depth variable, up to about 2" in places. The materials are iar dry clay and various acrylic paints in deep shades of teal and copper with some pale beige and gold. The gold and copper are mixed with metallic pigments to create a dull metallic patina, giving it an antique feel. The background textures were made with leaves from my yard, then allowed to dry quickly to make a crackled effect. The other details were then added for a whimsical "fossil" theme, and I added some cotton lace trim for the portion that looks a bit like coral. Lastly it was coated with a matte acrylic varnish to protect the clay and paint. This piece is titled Evolution because I really had no particular plan but let it sort of evolve into whatever it wanted to be.
I really liked the crackled look of the edges on this piece, so I painted the canvas edges and added and wire hanger so it is ready to be hung unframed (you may decide to frame it, but keep in mind it may damage the edges where the clay is so once framed it will likely have to stay that way)
This piece is sturdy, but due to its materials should be handled with care so as not to chip it or break the clay pieces. It will be shipped very well padded and double boxed with shipping insurance.
