Margate -Medieval Ankle Boots (Black) Women's 14 / Men's 13

Sale Price: $150.00 Original Price: $170.00

This pair is a women's 14 or men's 13, fits foot length 11 7/16"-11 11/16" and instep 10 3/4"-11 1/8". This pair is all black.

This ankle-boot, while named for a brass of Nicholas Canteys (c. 1431), from St. John's Church in Margate, Kent, is representative of a style that first seems to have come into fashion during the early 13th century. Though I have chosen to adopt the name “Margate” for my purposes, I have modeled this shoe most closely after an extant example found in 1974 at the Seal House Site, located on Upper Thames Street in London. While this type of footwear persisted for at least two centuries and I have run across quite a few regional variants, the example that I have followed does a fairly good job at representing this general style throughout its historic frame of reference.

For the comfort of modern wearers, I have added an additional 3mm leather insole to aid in protecting feet from the numerous sharp and pointy objects present in the modern world. This additionally serves to increase the durability of the shoe. I don't feel that this takes away from the historic character of this ankle-boot, while offering customers a more user friendly product.
