This rather large grasshopper is made of merino wool felt and silk, stuffed with poly-fil and has wired legs, wings, and antennae. We have a ton of grasshoppers here in the summer, and they have beautiful wings that made a strange clacking sound when they fly. This guy has silk wings that I painted with acrylics and added some iridescent pearl-ex powder, making them shiny and stiff. These and the outer "wings" are machine stitched for a quilted look, the rest of the body was hand sewn together. The abdomen is stitched with embroidery floss to add segments, and the eyes are glass. I did not use a pattern for this so it's very much a one-of-a-kind little character! It's body is about 10" long, with the legs posed as I have them in the photos it is about 14" long and about 13" wide with the wings spread out.
